Sony has revealed the full pricing and pre-order details for its Marvel’s Wolverine-themed PlayStation 5 hardware, confirming a $649.99 Digital Edition console bundle ahead of pre-orders opening August 19. The Battle Yellow bundle pairs a limited-edition PS5 Digital Edition console with a matching DualSense controller and a game code for Marvel’s Wolverine, which launches on PS5 September 15, 2026. Standalone controllers and console covers will also be available.
What’s In the Bundle
The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle costs $649.99 in the US, £569.99 in the UK, and €649.99 in the EU. It includes the themed console, a matching Battle Yellow DualSense controller, and a digital code for the full game.
The design draws from Insomniac’s Battle Reborn suit and claws from the game, with a yellow finish and cutaway claw-mark details that expose parts of the console’s interior. Comic artist Jock, who also contributed key art for the game, worked with Sony on the look.
Separate accessories are also available for players who already own a console:
- Battle Yellow DualSense controller: $84.99 US / £74.99 UK
- PS5 console covers, Battle Yellow: $74.99 US / £64.99 UK
- PS5 Pro console covers, Battle Yellow: $74.99 US / £64.99 UK
- PS5 Pro console covers, Adamantium finish: $74.99 US / £64.99 UK
- Adamantium DualSense controller (PS5 Pro): $84.99 US / £74.99 UK
The Adamantium design uses a metallic finish inspired by the metal bonded to Logan’s skeleton and is exclusive to PS5 Pro covers and controllers.
Pre-Order Timing
Pre-orders for all hardware open August 19, 2026, at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET in the US and 10 a.m. local time in the UK and across most of Europe. Orders go live through direct.playstation.com in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Austria, along with select retailers in other regions. Sony has said quantities are limited and hardware ships alongside the game on September 15.
Performance: 60 FPS With Ray Tracing on Base PS5
Alongside the hardware reveal, Insomniac Games confirmed a notable technical detail in interviews published this week: Marvel’s Wolverine will run at 60 frames per second with ray tracing active by default in performance mode on a standard PS5, not just the PS5 Pro. It is the first time the studio has shipped a game with that combination as the default setting rather than adding it after launch.
Senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed said the team built the game around a 60 FPS target on base hardware from early in development, rather than treating ray tracing as a late addition. Head of technology Mike Fitzgerald said the studio typically adds ray-traced performance modes late in a project, but committed to shipping the feature standard this time.
The game is also confirmed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, using Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaling for further visual and frame rate improvements on that hardware. Both consoles support fidelity and performance display modes.
Story and Setting
Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game and is not open world, according to Sony’s official product listing breakdown. The story is set three years after Logan leaves Team X, a covert mutant task force. He rejoins the group after Bolivar Trask begins abducting mutants, and the campaign moves between the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and the island nation of Madripoor.
Confirmed characters include Jean Grey, who fights alongside Logan and protects a group of captured mutant teens, along with Sabretooth, Mystique, and the villain Omega Red. Combat centers on building a Rage meter through hits and kills, which unlocks stronger attacks and taps into Wolverine’s healing factor. Special moves called Techniques, along with upgrade options called Adaptations, let players adjust his fighting style. Insomniac has also built out heavily destructible environments and wind-reactive foliage for the wilderness and jungle settings, a shift from the mostly urban Spider-Man games the studio previously developed.
Editions and Pricing
The Standard Edition costs $69.99 in the US and £69.99 in the UK, available both physically and digitally. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 US / £79.99 UK and adds five exclusive suits, five exclusive claws, and three extra Technique Points, all cosmetic and also earnable through normal play. Every edition includes pre-order bonuses: an early-unlock classic brown suit, reflective claws, one Technique Point, and four PlayStation avatars.
Physical copies will ship on Blu-ray disc and are playable offline, though a day-one update is expected.
Early Impressions
Press previews published this week, following hands-on sessions with an early build, describe the combat as aggressive and physically responsive, with Wolverine able to close distance quickly and chain attacks into higher Rage tiers. Reviewers who played extended demo sections covering a Trask facility infiltration and a boss encounter in Madripoor’s Lowtown district noted a heavier focus on character writing and quieter dialogue scenes than in Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles. Sony has also published a detailed accessibility list for the game covering combat timing adjustments, camera and motion settings, subtitle options, and controls for on-screen violence.
